2018 Paralympic Winter Games start in South Korea

The opening ceremony of the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games took place in South Korea on Friday.

The tournament honours the talents and skills of disabled sportspersons. It was also honoured by Google with a special Doodle on Friday.

Google Doodle celebrated the opening of the 2018 Paralympic Games in PyeongChang. The doodle shows athletes from each of the six sports in the competition.

The para athletes will showcase their skills in six sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, Para ice hockey, snowboarding and wheelchair curling.

This year’s competition is going to be the biggest winter Paralympics till date. The games this year will see more female athletes than ever before.

More than 560 athletes will take part in the Paralympics this year from 49 countries.

North Korea, Georgia and Tajikistan are the three countries that are participating for the first time in the Winter Paralympics 2018.

Indian para athletes have been taking part in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since 1984.

However, India has never participated in the Winter Paralympic Games.

The Paralympics will take place from 9 March till 18 March 2018.
