Families of patients in hospital intensive care suffer anxiety and depression, says study
Family members of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often suffer from anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. The anxiety levels shoot up so much that they often forget to take care of their own health!
Recently, a research was conducted by experts in the United States into the link between levels of cortisol in the families of patients in ICU. Cortisol is responsible for stress levels in the human body.
Experts say that family members neglect their own health. Instead they worry about the relative in the ICU as well as other close family members. It is important to take care of one’s own health and stay away from hospital for a while. Meditation and joining support groups also help with coping in such situations.
