Senior citizens' give up railway concessions

The Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, has informed Lok Sabha that more than nine lakh senior citizens have given up their railway concessions between July 2017 and February 2018.

This is an initiative taken by the senior citizens to help the Indian Railways meet their expenditure.

According to Gohain, a Give Up Scheme was launched by senior citizens to help the Railways. While over nine lakh senior citizens gave up 100% of their concession, over eight lakh elderly passengers gave up 50% of their concessions.

Elderly passengers launched the Give Up Scheme in 2017. They said that the money would help in providing better facilities. It could also be used to build new railway stations in various parts of India.
