Doctors' at Delhi's leading government hospital stressed out, admitted to psychiatric ward
At least five doctors at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been admitted to the psychiatric ward of the hospital. They have been there for a week.
While most of them have complained of work-related stress, others have personal problems that stressed them out.
Reports say that many doctors at AIIMS have been undergoing psychiatric help over the past many years.
AIIMS is one of the best medical institutes in India. The work pressure faced by doctors there would be higher than many other institutes. Just last week, a doctor in the Anesthesia Department tried to commit suicide and was saved by fellow doctors.
Senior faculty members and the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) have asked authorities to start counselling sessions and therapy for doctors.
Over the years, many doctors who work at AIIMS have committed suicide. However, it was hardly talked about. Now, more doctors are coming out in the open to speak about their difficulties and problems at the workplace.
Authorities have said that helpline numbers must be started so that depressed doctors can seek help at anytime.
