Meditation can help reduce signs of depression
A recent study says that mindfulness meditation training can lead to lower chances of depression. The study was done on people of 18 years and above.
Patients who have symptoms of depression, but have not reached extreme levels, are considered to have sub-threshold depression. This sub-threshold depression can lead to economic loss and other functional impairments. It can also be a factor leading up to major depressive disorders.
Researchers categorized patients into two groups - Behavioral Activation with Mindfulness (BAM), and Usual Care. BAM patients were given psychological training and meditations, while those in the other the group were provided with anything.
Over the months, researchers understood that people in the BAM group showed lesser symptoms of depression than those in the Usual Care group.
