Pune-based school under probe for torturing disabled student

A prominent school in Pune is under investigation for ill-treating a seven-year-old disabled child. The Goenka International School, located at Ahmednagar Road in Pune, has been charged under many counts by the Yerwada Police.

The disabled child was tortured on many occasions between April to September 2017. According to reports, the staff at the school mistreated the child. The parents say they had no idea.

This act by the school officials is a violation of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The Act says,

No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law - Article 21, Indian Constitution

A case under Sections 419, 406, 311, 317, 323, 120(b) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 17(1)(2) of Right to Education Act, Section 23 of Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, and Sections 75 and 82 of Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 has been filed against 12 people from the school.

This includes the directors of the school, Sandip Goenka and his wife Archana.
