Delhi government introduces free pilgrimage for the elderly

The Deputy Chief Minister of New Delhi, Manish Sisodia, has announced the launch of the Mukhya Mantri Tirath Yatra scheme. Under this, senior citizens in the Capital can travel to pilgrimage centres for free!

Rs 53 crore have been allotted for this scheme.

The Delhi government will take care of all expenses during travel. This includes food, accommodation, and travel insurance. More than 77,000 senior citizens in Delhi can now go on a pilgrimage without any hassles.

The Delhi Governor is yet to approve the scheme.

The Delhi government is also going to improve facilities at Anganwadis and similar centres. Under the 'Incentivised Anganwadi Upgradation Scheme, model anganwadis will be built across New Delhi.

CCTV cameras will be installed in order to ensure safety. The government plans to introduce the Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse scheme as well.
