First ever Khelo India event for people with learning disabilities

350 athletes with learning disabilities are participating in the State Games in Trichy district in Tamil Nadu.

The three day gaming event started at the Anna Stadium in Trichy on Thursday.

Top performers from the district-level events in Tamil Nadu were selected to participate in the ongoing tournament.

The games have been organisd by the Special Olympics Bharat, under the Khelo India scheme.

The state games will feature various events such as athletics, aquatics, table tennis, badminton, 5-a-side football and bocce in the three-day event.

Khelo India scheme is undertaken by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

The aim of the initiative is ‘promotion of sports among persons with disability’.

The sports promotion program has been conducted in 150 districts across India.

This is the first time that a Khelo India program has been conducted for sportspersons with learning disabilities.
