Government Medical College and Hospital at Nagpur to have a spine centre
The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Nagpur is all set to start a spine center in their premises. A final proposal for the spine center has already been sent to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER).
An estimated Rs 8.3 crore will be spent on building the new spine center.
The center will be completed in three different phases. In the first phase, the casualty, out-patient department, operation theatres, and wards will be built.
The second phase will cover rehabilitation services, like physical therapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology, prosthetics etc. The third phase will include a research laboratory, auditorium, library, and other teaching facilities.
Spinal cord injuries can be extremely fatal. They usually result in partial or complete paralysis of a person. At the new spine center, patients who have spinal injuries will be treated on a priority basis.
