Pain in the knee can lead to depression in elderly

A lot of men and women, of the age of 60 and above, suffer from knee problems due to osteoarthritis. This may lead to depression.

Knee osteoarthritis affects many people. However, few studies have looked at how knee pain and limited knee function relate to depression.

Osteoarthritis is a joint disease that develops when the joint becomes inflamed because of damage to the protective cartilage and other tissues that cushion the joints. The pain can damage the quality of life and, therefore, can lead to depression.

The study says that people who experienced knee pain at night while in bed, or while getting in or out of a car were more likely to report having signs of depression.
