Job fair in Bengaluru attracts many senior citizens looking to join the workforce again

A job fair held at the St Joseph’s College in Bengaluru on the weekend was packed with hundreds of senior citizens. They were all hoping to get a second chance to be back at work.

The Nightingales Jobs 60+ fair for the elderly was organized by the Nightingale Empowerment Foundation (NEF) with St Joseph’s College. It was open to financially weak, but physically fit people, between 60 and 70 years.

The first such fair was held in 2011. Since then, the number of senior citizens participating in such job fairs has increased.

The placements are in the areas of administration, supervision, public relations, teaching, accountancy, insurance and marketing. The average monthly salary on offer is Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. Nearly 1,000 people registered for the fair.

So far, 2,300 senior citizens have been placed through the job fairs.
