Kerala professor faces action for insensitive comments about children with autism & cerebral palsy

The Public Health Department of the Kerala government plans to take action against a professor who made insensitive statements about children with autism in an awareness programme.

Rajat Kumar, who is a professor at Sree Sankara College in Kalady is in trouble for saying that children with autism and cerebral palsy are born to arrogant people.

Even the Health Minister K K Shailaja has taken notice and said that Kumar should not be invited for programmes conducted by government departments.

Kumar has been a popular face in awareness programmes organized by the police, and various government departments. The minister said that Kumar has been continuously spreading superstitious information.

Parents of disabled children are upset with Kumar's statements, which he has repeated often. Though he has been told his comments were unscientific and anti-social, Kumar has refused to withdraw his statement.

Many parents are planning to file a case against Kumar under the RPWD Act, 2016.
