Bharat Bandh takes the life of an elderly man in Uttar Pradesh
A senior citizen in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh lost his life during the Bharat Bandh protests on Monday.
The 68-year-old man died as the ambulance that was carrying him was not able to reach the hospital in time.
The ambulance was stuck just a kilometer away from the hospital. The roads were obstructed due to the protests by the Dalit communities.
The man’s son lifted him on shoulders and ran towards the hospital. However, the patient was declared dead on arrival.
The Bharat Bandh had been called by Dalit groups against a Supreme Court order regarding the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
At least, nine people were killed during the protests in various states.
Public and private property worth crores was also destroyed in the violence.
