HUM Communities is an online platform dedicated to help elderly find jobs
When Ramesh Kumar Vij turned 76 years old in 2017, he decided to do something that would be a gift to other senior citizens.
In partnership with Kritarth Malhotra, he started HUM Communities, an online community-based job platform, which is dedicated to finding and creating job opportunities for elderly people.
Vij, who is a retired electrical engineer, worked in various government departments and public-sector companies. Once he retired in 2000, he felt bored and started having negative thoughts.
He decided to start an initiative to help other senior citizens who are physically fit and can be gainfully employed.
In the one year since its launch, HUM has extended its reach to other cities. There are three HUM chapters in Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru. People can contact the community helpline and add their profile and resume.
They are linked to HUM ambassadors in each place, who add them to the local WhatsApp group.
Some of the job requirements so far are for wealth advisors, writers, trainers, assessors, auditors, accountants and recruiters.
HUM is also planning to launch other initiatives.
In the next two months, HUM plans to focus on community building, take seniors on holidays and pilgrimage places, conduct yoga and pranayama classes.
