Government ignored data regarding medical institutions while giving them top ranking, says report
Recently, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which is an arm of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had ranked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) as one of the best institutions across India.
However, it now turns out that the NIRF based its ranking on false data submitted by these two institutions regarding the facilities for students with disabilities.
The shocking revelation throws light on the lack of credibility of government surveys.
Both AIIMS and PGIMER have been recognized to have failed to cater to the needs of their students with disabilities.
Both the institutions failed in adhering to the outreach and inclusivity parameter norms, yet were given the full 20 marks.
Christian Medical College in Vellore was ranked third followed by Kasturba Medical College in Manipal. All other institutions that participated in the survey admitted to not having enough facilities for inclusion and accessibility. But AIIMS and PGIMER denied the facts and reached top positions in the survey.
Last March, PGIMER had admitted that they do not have enough facilities for students with disabilities.
