Special pilgrimage train launched for senior citizens

A special train has been launched by the Indian railways for senior citizens under the Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana.

This special train is for travel to Shirdi, Nashik, and Trimbakeshwar for pilgrimage.

People in the age group of 60 to 75 years are eligible for the scheme.

The train will cover prominent pilgrimage sites during the seven-day tour.

The Odisha Government and the Indian Railway signed an agreement to start this service. The train made its debut run from Sambalpur station in Odisha.

Around 1,000 senior citizens went on the inaugural ride of the train.

Senior citizens from below poverty line (BPL) category will get a 100% travel concession.

For every 50 senior citizens, an escort officer has been appointed to help them during the journey.
