Forum for suicide prevention launched in Gujarat

The rate of people committing suicide in India is rising at an alarming rate.

Keeping this in mind, a group of psychiatrists and volunteers from Gujarat are all set to start a forum for suicide prevention.

The forum will have experts, volunteers, psychiatrists, and faculty members of Shyamji Krishna Verma University in Kutch.

The forum will follow the guidelines of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). Organizers plan to take the initiative beyond Kutch in the future.

Experts say that the number of people committing suicide in Saurashtra-Kutch is alarmingly high. The forum plans to reach the maximum number of people through counselling and medical help.

The forum will hold public seminars to spread information and awareness about mental health.

They also plan to start a 24x7 helpline to cater to those who are feeling stressed.
