Indian railways earns Rs 77 crore, thanks to senior citizens
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that 40 lakh senior citizens from India voluntarily gave up their railway concessions for the welfare of the country. The Indian Railways has announced that it has saved Rs 77 crore due to the Give It Up scheme.
Under the scheme, many senior citizens from India gave up the concessions they are given by Indian railways.
Narendra Modi said that this shows the love and patriotism that lakhs of people have towards their country. The Give It Up scheme went on for 19 months from 15 August 2016 to 31 March 31 2018.
The railways gives men over 60 years of age a concession of 40%, while women over 58 years of age get a 50% concession. The Indian railways has schemes for senior citizens, students, and people with disabilities. But the largest chunk is taken by senior citizens.
The Give It Up scheme was launched by senior citizens because Indian railways had a debt of Rs 1,300 crore in the senior citizens category.
