All India Institute of Medical Science to hold pneumonia vaccination drive for 300 senior citizens
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in collaboration with an NGO is all set to vaccinate 300 senior citizens against pneumonia. Senior citizens in India are often neglected. Their medical care is given minimal attention. The government has very less schemes that lend a helping hand to the elderly. A free vaccination event will truly be a blessing to the elderly who lives in New Delhi where the event will be held!
AIIMS, along with the NGO ‘Healthy Ageing India’ is joining hands for this venture. All the 300 elderly are trained to teach underprivileged children. They are from 20 old age homes across New Delhi.
Prasun Chatterjee is the professor of geriatric medicine at AIIMS. He said that doctors will provide a free medical cancer check-up for the elderly at this event. In India, there are more than 44 lakh people who are diagnosed with cancer every year. Out of this only 5 lakh people avail medical help.
Providing an awareness on cancer is very important. Most of the times, people diagnose it only during a second or third stage. Providing treatment becomes too late by then!
The event will be held at ‘Gandhi Smriti’ on 25 April. Union Minister Rajnath Singh will be the chief guest at the event. AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria and Head of Oncology Department Dr GK Rath will also be present at the event.
