Stung by 5 losses in a row, Gautam Gambhir steps down as Delhi Daredevils captain

Gautam Gambhir has stepped down as Delhi Daredevils captain for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 season.

Shreyas Iyer has replaced him with immediate effect.

At a press conference, Gambhir said that the decision to step down was entirely his. He took full responsibility for the losses faced by the team in the ongoing IPL season.

He later added on Twitter -

True, that I’ve stepped down from DD captaincy. Just to clarify it was my call, nothing from the management or coaching staff. I may not be leading from the front but I will be the last man standing for @DelhiDaredevils. No individual bigger than d team. Very much a #DilDIlli

Gambhir also thanked the management and coaches for appointing him captain of the team. He called it a great honour.

With just one win in IPL 2018, Delhi Daredevils is at the bottom of the points table.
