Actor Kamal Haasan’s party to contest Tamil Nadu local body elections

Actor Kamal Haasan has announced that his newly formed political party will take part in the upcoming Tamil Nadu local body elections.

This will be the first election for the Makkal Needhi Maiam party.

Kamal Haasan made the announcement at a mock gram panchayat at his office in Chennai.

The mock gram panchayat at the party headquarter in Chennai was aimed at educating participants about the Panchayati Raj system in India.

Kamal Haasan also spoke about the high level of corruption in the country and misuse of funds allotted for welfares schemes.

Kamal Haasan said that Tamil Nadu has over 12,524 villages, Each gram panchayat gets between Rs 1 to 5 crore in funds from the government.

However, the funds are not utilized properly and this affects the development work in the villages.
