Protests in Jaipur by physically disabled people for nursing jobs

The Viklang Andolan 2016 Sangharsh Samiti in Jaipur in Rajasthan has been protesting for over three weeks now demanding employment in nursing jobs.

About 28 people with physical disabilities have been protesting outside the Vishesh Yogyajan Bhawan for several issues. Their main demand is for employment for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) second-grade nurses.

The protestors say that the medical department had brought out about 15,000 vacancies in 2013, which were later reduced to about 11,000. The 28 people who are protesting were shortlisted for these posts.

The policy states the position will be given only to people with one leg disability. The protestors have more than this. They have a disability of above 40%, along with other disabilities like one leg and one hand.

While they were shortlisted and declared fit for work at the time of recruitment, they were later told they were not eligible as they did not have one leg disability.

The protesters are also demanding the implementation of the decision of filling backlog vacancies of persons with a disability since 1996.
