Dangal actress Zaira Waseem opens up about battle with depression
Actress Zaira Wasim, famous for films like Dangal and Secret Superstar, says that she suffers from depression. The 17-year-old, who shot to fame after Dangal, says she has been battling depression for over four years, but was forced to deny it.
Zaira says she suffered her first panic attack when she was 12 years old, followed by the second one at the age of 14 years.
Zaira, who has won the National Award, opened up about her struggles on Instagram.

She said she was embarrassed and scared to admit to this as there is much stigma around depression. She was also told that she was too young to be depressed and that it was just a phase.
Zaira, who is from Srinagar, says she has taken as many as five anti-depressants everyday, faced anxiety attacks, was rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night, felt empty, restless, and anxious.

Zaira says she has now understood it, and decided to share her struggle without feeling ashamed and embarrassed.
