Bengaluru NGO aims to create awareness about retinoblastoma
Iksha Foundation, a Bengaluru-based NGO, is all set to organize programmes to spread awareness on retinoblastoma. The NGO believes that the campaign will help diagnose retinoblastoma at an early stage, and hence cure the person.
Retinoblastoma is an eye cancer that usually affects infants. Newborn babies and children up to five years of age are most vulnerable.
It can occur in one eye or both the eyes. 13 to 19 May is observed as World Retinoblastoma Week. The NGO believe that parents must be made aware through a sustained campaign.
Experts say that in most cases, parents take their children to doctors only after the eye problem becomes evident. But the disease reaches its worst stage by then. Early diagnosis is important for the cure of retinoblastoma.
Even though some cases of retinoblastoma are treated, many more are going unreported as well. Hence, creating awareness about the disease is the need of the hour.
