Congress leader Shashi Tharoor charged with of abetment in wife's suicide

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has been charged with abetment in the suicide of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. The charge sheet filed by Delhi Police pointed out that Sunanda went through a lot of cruelty during her marriage with Tharoor.

Shashi Tharoor has called the charges preposterous. He said that he will contest them vigorously.

Tharoor tweeted that people who knew Sunanda would never believe that she committed suicide. He also questioned the motives of Delhi Police to frame him in the case.

The charge sheet has more than 3,000 pages. This will be filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmendra Singh by this month.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at a hotel in New Delhi on January 2014. Post mortem reports confirmed that she died of poisoning.

The Delhi Police filed an FIR in 2015 against unknown persons under IPC section 302 (murder). During that time, Shashi Tharoor was alleged to having an affair with a Pakistani journalist.
