Disabled students from Asha Lata school put up a great show at Ranchi sports event
Ranchi recently held a state-level sports competition as part of Khelo India. This is a national programme for the development of sports organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for people with disabilities.
The stars of the event were students from Bokaro’s Asha Lata Kendra who won 24 medals.
Seventeen students from Asha Lata participated in the event. They won four gold medals, 12 silver, and eight bronze medals across various sports events.
Asha Lata is an organization that works towards providing education and vocational skills to disabled students. Children with hearing and vision impairments, locomotor disabilities, learning disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities study here.
Children are educated here from classes 1 to 12. Once the schooling is over, the children are given skills training. This equips them towards finding a job and becoming independent.
There is great empathy among the children at Asha Lata as well as a strong feeling of companionship, co-ordination, team spirit and intimacy.
