Gujarat government to bring healthcare to the homes of the elderly at nominal fee
The Gujarat government has approved a project where doctors will visit elderly people at their homes to provide health care services. This will be done for a fee of Rs 1,000 per year.
The state government has decided to do this given the large number of elderly people who live alone.
The scheme will be launched in Gandhinagar on a pilot basis. People above the age of 70 years can get the benefit of this facility.
If the pilot project succeeds, it will be done in other parts of Gujarat as well.
To get the benefit of this service, senior citizens need to first register themselves at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital by paying Rs 1,000.
Under the project, a team made up of a doctor, a nurse and a paramedic will visit each elderly citizen, every 15 days.
The doctor will offer treatment to them and guide them for any health-related issue. The team will carry some basic medicines and various equipment like an ECG machine, to carry out on-the-spot assessment.
In case of an emergency, the team would visit the patients at their home to treat them, for which they will have to pay Rs 200 per visit.
