Bengaluru to host paralympic games under ‘Khelo India’ scheme in June

The Khelo India scheme will soon host a National Para Games event this year in Bengaluru during the months of June and July.

The scheme was started by the Union Sports Ministry for para-athletes. The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) will be hosting the Bengaluru event.

There will be 10 categories of events at the para games. Para athletics, badminton, chess, blind judo, para powerlifting, shooting para sport, para swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair fencing are the various events that will be held.

Men and women between the ages of 16 to 40 years will take part in the event.

An official from the PCI has called this a first-of-its kind initiative by the government. There are plans to hold these para games every year from here on.

The tentative dates for the events are 28 June to 7 July 2018.
