More than 100 people dead in plane crash at Cuba
More than 100 people lost their lives in a plane crash that happened near Cuba’s main airport in Havana. The Boeing 737 crashed on Friday, shortly after taking off from Havana.
The flight was heading to Holguin in Cuba. This is undoubtedly one of the worst plane crashes that has ever happened in Cuba. The plane was reportedly more than 40 years old. Cuba has announced two days of national mourning after the accident.
The six crew members on-board were Mexicans. There were five foreign nationals. The rest of the passengers were all Cubans.
Three women have been rescued from the wreckage of the plane crash. All of them are said to be in a critical condition.
Authorities have not yet revealed the exact cause of the crash. Eyewitnesses said that the plane burst into flames before falling into a paddy field.
Mexico’s transport department said that the flight underwent technical issues during take-off.
The plane was built in 1979. Authorities claimed that the plane was fit for flying. They had inspected it in November 2017.
