BJP loses floor test in Karnataka Assembly
The BJP has suffered a major setback in Karnataka with the party failing to prove its majority in the floor of the Assembly.
Ahead of the crucial trust vote, the BJP Chief Minster B S Yeddyurappa, who took charge on Thursday, resigned after it became clear that his party had not succeeded in getting the required numbers to form the government.
Mr Yeddyurappa made an emotional speech after which he stepped down. He then went to the Karnataka governor's residence to officially hand in his resignation.
The political turmoil in Karnataka is not yet over. The ball is now in the court of the Congress-Janata Dal Secular to prove their numbers and form the next government.
