These 2 Italians are determined to change notions about disability through extreme sports

Luca Paiardi and Danilo Ragona became friends 20 years ago when they met at the Orthopedic Trauma Centre in Turin in northern Italy. They were both in separate road accidents that led them to becoming wheelchair users.

The disability marked a new start for them. They both felt a desire to show others how to enjoy a full life despite physical barriers.

Four years ago, the two men launched Journey to Italy, a travel project which invites disabled people filled with adventure to take part in extreme sports, in Italy and other countries.

They plan to go as far as Ladakh, in India and South Africa.

Their latest achievement was to conquer Italy's highest climbing wall.

They have also founded Able To Enjoy, which sells wheelchair accessories, spare parts, and wheelchair-friendly camping products.

They have also designed a compact wheelchair that can be taken on a flight as carry-on luggage, or adapted for off-road or sports activities.
