Congress & Janata Dal Secular fight over juicy portfolios in Karnataka
Barely a week after the new alliance government was sworn in, the ruling coalition partners in Karnataka are fighting over the juicy portfolios.
The Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) both want the finance portfolio. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has his hands full managing both sides and has promised to resolve the issue soon.
Kumaraswamy has apparently told the Congress that all junior partners must be allowed to keep the finance portfolio. However, the Congress wants this key portfolio.
Apart from finance, a few other key portfolios, like energy and water resources are also being discussed. The JD(S) wants to keep these departments as well. H D Revanna, the chief minister's brother, wants to keep energy, something Congress leader D K Shivakumar, wants as well.
JD(S) sources are complaining that the Congress wants all the key portfolios. A decision is likely to be taken after Congress leaders consult Rahul Gandhi, who is abroad.
