Bombay High Court denies future adoptions to couple for refusing to adopt disabled child
Today, many couples choose to adopt children over having their own biological child. Raising a child is all about patience, care, and love. A couple from Karnataka have ended up facing the court's anger for refusing to adopt a disabled child.
The couple had decided to adopt a child from the Asha Sadan Balgruh, which is an adoption group from Mumbai. Upon learning that the child is speech impaired and needs speech therapy, the couple decided to turn the child down.
The Bombay High Court has directed the Central Adoption Resource Authority(CARA) to not allow the couple to adopt any more children without the High Court's permission.
The petitioner in the case was the orphanage, Asha Sadan Balgruh. The couple, who are in their late 40s, decided to adopt a three-year-old girl. They did not know that she was speech impaired. The girl got emotionally attached to the adoptive father. Upon knowing her medical condition, the couple decided not to adopt her.
The court said that the order has been passed in order to protect the welfare of every child who is up for adoption.
