14-year-old boy loses vision in one eye after being beaten by teacher

Do beatings and punishments still exist in our schools? If they do, it is high time that teachers opt for other ways to discipline students.

In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old boy in Karnataka lost sight in his left eye after he was hit by his school headmaster. The incident happened at the Christraja Balapattana Higher Primary School at Chamarajanagar.

P Joseph, the headmaster, has gone on long leave after the incident. He is absconding now. The police have started a massive search for the culprit.

The victim has been taken to various hospitals in Mysuru, Bengaluru and Coimbatore for treatment. But doctors said that his eye sight cannot be restored because his nerve cells have been badly damaged.

According to the police, the incident happened last January. But the headmaster warned the boy to keep quiet. So, the child did not even tell his parents. It was only after he started losing vision in his left eye that he mentioned what had happened to his parents. They immediately filed a case against the headmaster.
