Cochlear implant surgeries performed on 3 kids in Pune

Three young deaf children from Pune received cochlear implant surgeries at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. The children were all two years old.

They are from Pune and nearby Latur district.

A cochlear implant surgery helps the person to hear. The cochlear implant system will bypass the parts of the ears that do not work any longer. They deliver sounds in the form of electrical signals to the hearing nerve. This way, the person will be able to hear sounds better.

Cochlear implant surgeries are now becoming common in India. This is the only way to treat hearing loss. It can be a huge blessing to young children who are born deaf or have hearing impairment.

The Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital is going to host a free screening camp for deaf people on 9 June. Counselling sessions will also be provided to parents of deaf children. Parents will also get an opportunity to meet experts and raise the concerns regarding treatment for hearing impairments.
