Centre distributes assistive equipment to disabled people in Uttarakhand
From wheelchairs to calipers, more than 450 disabled people were provided with assistive devices and equipment in Uttarakhand by the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot. The minister also announced that the Centre would launch 100 welfare schemes for disabled people.
The event in Dehradun was organized under the Rashtriya Vayoshree scheme.
The minister took the opportunity to announce that the Centre had provided 80% of disabled people in India with motorized tri-cycles for easy mobility. Equipment worth more than Rs 600 crore has been distributed across India.
More than 40,000 people have got various assistive devices under government schemes.
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has been providing wheelchairs, tri-cycles, crutches, hearing aids, spectacles, laptops to students, and smart phones as well.
Gehlot said that his ministry would ensure that government schemes reached the maximum number of disabled people in India.
