Arjun Tendulkar, Sachin's son, selected for India under-19 squad
Another Tendulkar is set to enter the cricket stage. This time it is Arjun, son of cricket legend Sachin, who will play for India in the under-19 squad.
Arjun will make his debut as a pacer in the series against Sri Lanka in July this year. The left-hander will be accompanied by Sachin's teammate and former India captain Rahul Dravid, who coaches the junior and 'A' teams.
A proud Sachin sent a short message to the media from London.
Thanks for the good wishes. We are happy about Arjun's selection. It is an important milestone in his cricketing life. Anjali and I will always support Arjun in his choices and pray for his success - Sachin Tendulkar
Arjun's coach, Atul Gaikwad, is a level-3 coach from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He was appointed by Sachin to coach Arjun three years ago.
Arjun has worked very hard to get here. He suffered back-to-back stress fractures three years ago and has finally reached a good fitness level. His coach says that on a good day, Arjun can consistently touch 135 kmph.
Given his famous father, Arjun is bound to face the pressure of comparison and questions about whether he truly deserves his spot.
