Reports of a Rajiv Gandhi-like assassination plotted against PM Narendra Modi, allegedly by Maoist groups
The Pune Police has claimed that an attack was being planned to kill PM Narendra Modi by the banned CPI (Maoists).
A letter has been seized by the police that mentions a plan to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi in “another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident”.
The letter was found in the residence of one of the five people, who were arrested for possible links with the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist).
The Pune police had made the arrests in December 2017 a day before the Bhima-Koregaon violence took place in Maharashtra.
The letter contained money details for the assassination plan and also mentioned that PM Modi’s success in India was a threat to the Maoist party.
The Police investigation has revealed that Maoist party was also behind the anti-Dalit violence that took place on January 1 this year.
