Kerala’s first age friendly taxi to launch in Kochi
Kochi in Kerala is all set to launch a special taxi service for the elderly people. This will be the first of its kind taxi service in the state.
The taxi service will focus on the needs and comfort of older people. The taxi drivers will get the option to put the labels of 'senior taxi' on their vehicles.
In the initial stage, at least two drivers will be selected from each ward and a total number of 150 will be there.
The drivers will be given training regarding the care of elderly people. They will also be trained to give first aid treatment in case of emergencies.
The driver training program is to begin from 18 June.
The special senior taxi service is the brainchild of 'Age Friendly' initiative of Magics NGO.
The NGO has been working towards making Kochi city friendly for older people with the help of Kochi Corporation and Indian Medical Association- Care of Elderly.
