Disabled people form a group to promote inclusion through yoga & dance
In the early hours of the morning, a group of nine disabled people gather at the Jagriti Park in Delhi to practise yoga.
The group includes seven young boys in wheelchairs and two girls who are hard of hearing. They came together a year ago to form a group called We Are One.
The group have known each other for a long time. They all went to the same school called Amar Jyoti School and have been performing Indian classical dance for more than 17 years together.
They decided to form a group to reach out to other disabled people by teaching them dance and yoga. They reach out to people of all disabilities, be it autism or those with mobility challenges.
The aim of the group is to break stereotypes and to promote inclusion in society. The group has faced many challenges, not all of them are related to disability. They have faced harassment from a past guide but were able to handle it because they were together.
This week the group will deliver a Yoga Dance Performance at the Handicapped Welfare Federation in Patparganj, New Delhi.
