Kerala government launches new day care centres for elderly!

Most of the times, senior citizens and elderly people are abused by their own family members. Recent reports have shown that a huge chunk of the elderly population is isolated, depressed and lonely. Government of Kerala is all set to create something unique in order to better the condition of elderly in the state.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shylaja inaugurated a new day care centre for the elderly at the state capital in Thiruvananthapuram. The minister also inaugurated similar project models for 14 districts across Kerala under the government scheme Saayamprabha. This scheme is launched by the Social Justice Department for the welfare of elderly.

Shylaja said that these homes will provide good care and a homely environment to senior citizens.

More than 13% of the total population in Kerala are senior citizens. They must feel happy, secure and safe.

The minister also added that the government is working towards welfare of marginalised people in the society including elderly, transgender people and people with disabilities.
