Kerala government to reconstitute panel for ensuring jobs to disabled people
According to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPWD) 2016, 5% of jobs are to be kept open to disabled people in various sectors. However, this is not being followed and the Kerala government wants to change that. It has decided to reconstitute an expert committee that can identify posts for disabled people!
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare K K Shylaja has announced that the new committee will have experts from various associations, NGOs and government departments who will work with disabled people in the state.
The minister also said that set guidelines will be followed by the committee. They will look into vacancies that are available for disabled people every three years.
The committee will be functioning under the Social Justice Department, and will have top authorities who work for the department. They will ensure that disabled people are not sidelined in the state, and that they receive their rights without any hassles. This new revamped committee is expected to be a blessing to disabled people in Kerala!
