NSG commandos in Kashmir for anti-terror operations
Commandos of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) are in Srinagar preparing to carry out operations against terror groups. The NSG is an elite special forces unit under the Home Ministry.
About 24 officers from the NSG's house intervention teams (HIT commandos) have been training in Kashmir for the last two weeks. In some time, the Home Ministry plans to have 100 NSG men placed here. Most of them have been placed near the airport as they specialize in anti-hijack drills.
The NSG commandos will soon be deployed in anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley. Officials hope their presence will help reduce the deaths among security forces, especially now that the Centre plans to intensify operations.
This week Jammu and Kashmir was placed under Governor's rule after the BJP pulled out of their coalition with Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party. Anti-terror operations had been put on hold during the Ramzan ceasefire, but are now being scaled up.
