Free assistive devices distributed to senior citizens at Dharwad
During old age, a person often finds it difficult to have physical coordination. That is when assistive devices come to their help. With modern technology being made available easily, assistive devices can be brought at decent rates. The government is also doing their bit to make things accessible to the elderly in India by stepping in to help them.
Senior citizens who are below poverty line at Dharwad district in Karnataka will get physical aids and assisted-living devices under the government scheme Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojna. The project is implemented by the Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment and ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India).
The initiative was launched by Pralhad Joshi who is the Member of Parliament (MP) from Dharwad.
More than 330 senior citizens have already benefitted from this scheme. Assistive devices were handed over to them by Pralhad. All the products were of high quality and adhered to the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Senior citizens who have locomotor disabilities, dental problems, hearing impairment and other age related problems will benefit from this initiative. Walking sticks, elbow crutches, walkers, tripods, quadpods, hearing aids, wheelchairs, artificial dentures and spectacles were given for free to senior citizens.
According to experts, this government scheme for senior citizens is expected to benefit at least 5 lakh people in the next few years to come.
