Meet this blind lawyer who cleared barriers for 2 disabled people to join the IAS!
64-year-old senior advocate S K Rungta, who is blind, has been fighting for the rights of disabled people for almost 30 years now This successful lawyer just added yet another golden feather to his cap. Thanks to his determination, courage and will-power to fight for the rights of people with disabilities!
Rungta has cleared barriers for two disabled people and paved the way for them to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) as officers.
The two men are Sunder Lal, who is visually impaired, and Abhishek Singh, who uses callipers to walk. In spite of clearing the IAS exam, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) placed Sunder in the Indian Revenue Service and Abhishek in the Indian Audit & Accounts Service.
The two men passed their exams over 10 years back. Since then, they have been fighting for their rights. That is when Rungta stepped in as their saviour!
The legal battle was fought for over five years. Now, a bench of justices passed the verdict that Sunder and Abhishek must be put into IAS within three months!
Rungta expressed his happiness and said that this must be an inspiration for more disabled people to join IAS and other such similar jobs.
The government often turns a blind eye towards the rights for disabled people. It is high time that inclusion is followed by government offices so that more talented disabled people join our government services.
