Campaign for disabled people in Odisha becomes a huge success
Recently, the Odisha state disability network launched a campaign Sashakt to empower disabled people. This state wide campaign aimed at creating an inclusive and accessible environment, awareness on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and new laws that are applicable for people with disabilities.
The drive kick-started at Puri on 9 May, and travelled more than 4100 kms to spread the message to at least 50,000 disabled people across the state!
Volunteers distributed leaflets and posters, conducted exhibitions, audio visual shows and press meets across 30 districts in Odisha.
On its final day, a seminar was held at Bhubaneswar that was attended by NGO’s, experts, government officials and disabled people. Dharmendra Pradhan who is the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship also attended the event. He launched a toll free number for disabled people.
Prominent film maker Anand Mohapatra’s short film on the campaign was also screened at the seminar!
