45 killed, 11 injured in bus accident at Uttarakhand
In yet another tragedy that highlights how dangerous Indian roads are, over 45 people were killed and at least 11 injured after a bus fell into a gorge at Uttarakhand’s Pauri district. Reports say that the bus was over-crowded when the accident happened.
The bus fell into a 200-metre gorge at Gween village in Pauri. Even though rescue teams reached the accident spot quickly, they were not able to save many passengers who were inside the bus. Officials said that the exact cause for the accident is unknown, but a team is investigating the incident.
Rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has announced compensation of Rs two lakh to the families of those who lost their dear ones in the tragedy. Rs 50,000 will be given to the families of those injured.
