Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to introduce free medical treatment for senior citizens
Many ailing and elderly people in our cities have a tough time trying to afford bills for their medical treatments and expenses. Those from economically backward families have to rely on government schemes and benefits. But most of the times, it takes a long while to get them sanctioned. Hence, it makes things difficult for senior citizens!
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wants to go easy on the medical expenses of elderly people living in the city by providing free healthcare. So they have passed a proposal from the health committee which will be discussed before a standing committee on Wednesday. Once the standing committee approves, senior citizens can avail treatment and surgeries for free from civic hospitals!
Prominent hospitals in Mumbai including KEM, Sion, and Nair are run by BMC. From 2016, a 50% discount was provided on surgeries and treatment for elderly people. Now, by planning to make this free of cost, many elderly people from the city will benefit from this.
An official from the health committee said that senior citizens form a bulk of patients at Mumbai hospitals. Hence, catering to their needs is very important. Officials from BMC hope that the standing committee will approve this at the earliest.
