Lack of accessible facilities at program meant to honour disabled people in Haryana creates outrage
It was meant to be a function to honour the achievements of people of disabilities. Instead what was witnessed has created outrage.
At a programme organized in Panchkula at Aggarwal Bhawan, disabled people were seen dragging themselves up the stairs to reach the stage. Even worse, was that the guests on the stage did nothing. They simply stood there and watched as the disabled people struggled to reach them.
No proper arrangements for disabled people were made at the event. While the organizers claimed that a ramp facility was available and there were volunteers present to help people with disabilities, none of this was visible.
People invited for the event said they did not see a ramp either at the entrance of the building or at the state. All the disabled guests said there was no one to guide them.
Present at the function were top authorities from Haryana, like Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, who was the chief guest. Others were former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta and WWE wrestler The Great Khali.
The programme organiser Surinder Goel has claimed that the disabled people present refused the help of volunteers and climbed the stairs out of their own will.
However, the question many people are asking is why the chief guests and other dignitaries did not come down from the stage to hand over the gifts to the disabled people.
