In Assam, neglecting parents, disabled siblings will cost you!
Last week, an elderly couple from Shivasagar in Assam committed suicide after being abused and neglected by their son. Following this, the Assam government has decided to implement strict rules to protect the welfare of elderly people in the state. The government will deduct the pay of employees who do not take care of their elderly parents and disabled siblings!
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has said that he is deeply moved by the suicide of the couple.The government will do all that it takes to protect senior citizens in the state.
Last year, the state had implemented Assam Employees’ Parents Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring Bill (PRONAM). The Bill aims at ensuring that all employees take care of their parents and disabled siblings. In case a person does not follow thism their parents or siblings can file a case against them.
If the complaint is genuine, the concerned departments will reduce 10% of the salary. This deducted salary will be given to the victim.
